Cowes Week 2023
In Cowes Week 2023 Cowes Town Regatta Committee ran racing for White Group Classes and Black Group IRC Class 7 from the Royal Yacht Squadron line, on Friday 4th August. All other classes started from Committee boat lines. Racing was on a 5 minute start sequence to the West, against the tide. With winds from the North West averaging 15 knots. Boats were sent a short distance to the East, getting up-tide, before the ebb got going. All classes got a way successfully accept for the Sonars, which required a General recall and a subsequent restart under U-Flag conditions.
The finshing was quite an affair to witness! All classes Black and White from the regatta (with the exception of the X Class), finished from the West on the Squadron Line. 500 boats, mostly flying spinnakers streamed over the line between 12:30pm and 2:30pm. This gave our team quite the challenge but nothing our years of experience could not handle! With strong winds and 2 days of cancelleations through the week, is was a relief for the regatta to finish on such a sucessful high.
The results can be found on the official Cowes Week website and several can be found here on the Class Results page.
The trophy winners can be found in the Virtual Trophy Room on this website.
A small prize giving is hoped to be planned for the Autumn time.
