Cowes Week 2024

In Cowes Week 2024 Cowes Town Regatta Committee ran racing for White Group Classes and Black Group IRC Classes 4-7, J/109, Contessa 32, Performance Cruiser B, Club Cruiser C-D and Sunsail 41 from the Royal Yacht Squadron line, on Friday 2nd August.  All other classes (IRC 0-3 and Performancve Cruiser A) started from Committee Vessel 1 line. Racing was on a 5 minute start sequence to the West, against the tide. With winds from the West averaging 15 knots. Boats were sent to the Western Solent for the day. All classes got away successfully after an inital 1 hour postponment, giving the wind time to develop from the WestThere were very few OCS boats, with the majority returning to start correctly. The XOD fleet started at 13:35hrs, giving the team around 5 minutes to prepare for the first finishers running down the Green from the West.

The finishing was a steady affair over the course of 3 hours and had all the spectacle expected with brightly coloured spinnakers close into Cowes Green for all the local spectators to witness! All classes that started on the Squadron line finished there too. With consistent winds on the Friday it was a relief for the organisers as the Week had been fraught with light winds that were inconsistent and often delayed starts until the mid afternoon.

The results can be found on the official Cowes Week website and several can be found here on the Class Results page.

The trophy winners can be found in the Virtual Trophy Room on this website.

A small prize giving is hoped to be planned for the Autumn time.
